So a few mins ago I heard Anni start making a weird noise, it sounds kind of like either hiccups (in a human) but I've never heard any of the rats actually make a hiccup noise, or a kind of choking?
I had him at the vet only 3 days ago and she said his lungs sound perfect, but suggested I use some revolution on them, which I did yesterday. Could this be a reaction to that maybe? Do you think its serious? I've added some vids of him so you could actually see/hear what he's doing. Please excuse my household in the background!
I'll obviously take him to the vet again if I have to, but he was just there a couple of days ago and all was fine so I'd like to avoid the expense of taking him again if I can. I've had quite a few vet visits lately and they're starting to hurt my bank account! Tongue
In teh second vid you can just fast forward to about the last 30 seconds if you want to, that's the only time he makes the noise.

Huh?

Yeah, it only lasted a few mins and it stopped. Maybe he had something stuck in his throat?   Huh?
Like I said, he was only checked 3 days ago and he was fine, so hopefully it was just a one time nothing!
In any case, I'm continuing to watch him, but he seems perfectly normal for now.

I have one boy, who when having a flair up makes a similar sound (it's hard to tell if it is exactly the some from the tape), I think of it as sounding a little like a monkey 'chatter'. Unfortunately it looks like my boy will be on permanent low dose antibiotics, as he can only go a week or two without a flair up, so looks like he'll have to take daily meds to stave off lung scarring. Hopefully your boy just a some temporary irritation, keep an eye on him like you said - fingers crossed he doesn't keep doing it  Smiley

It looks to me like he is trying to cough something up, whether it be something stuck in his throat or fluid in his lungs. Just keep an eye on him, but in the first video his breathing looked a little laboured to me.

It looks like he's choking in the second video.  Has he eaten anything since he's been like that?  If he's now back to normal and is able to eat (and it was choking), he should be now fine, unless he aspirated food or fluid into his lungs.  Do keep a close eye on him.

If he has fluid in his lungs, make him sneeze, thats a way you can clear fluids from animals lungs. I had to do that when my bird had fluid in his lungs (which was the vets fault for putting it there).
